TIMONIUM, Md (WMAR) -
It seems like there is a world record to beat for just about everything, and a Maryland seafood processing company beat their own.
On Sunday, Handy International, a Maryland seafood company that has been around for more than 100 years, beat their own record for the World’s Largest Crab Cake.
The cake was filled with fresh-picked crab meat, eggs, breading, and a special seasoning mixture.
It weighed in at 300 pounds.
The colossal crab cake was cooked in a rotisserie-style cooker designed byHandy's Regional Sales Manager Jim Cupp.
Although the crab cake is only a temporary masterpiece, the seafood company is hoping that selling it at the Maryland State Fair will have a long-lasting effect.
The large cake was broken down into smaller sandwiches and sold for eight dollars each to benefit the MD 4-H Foundation.
Cupp said that he was excited to raise money to support the mission of the MD 4-H Foundation.
According to their website, the MD 4-H Foundation has a mission to build and manage the financial resources to support Maryland youth in reaching their fullest potential as competent, caring, responsible individuals through 4-H programs.
"What a way for the seafood community to join in helping to support the agricultural community for the State of Maryland," said Cupp.
