Woman dies in serious crash on I-270

FREDERICK, Md. (wWMAR) - On Sunday afternoon, Maryland State Police responded to reports of a serious vehicle accident on I-270 South at Bennett Creek near Urbana.

Upon trooper arrival, they found that a woman driving a 2009 Subaru had driven into the rear of a tractor trailer.

Police say that the adult-aged female driver was killed on impact, and a male passenger in the Subaru was seriously injured.

He was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma by a Maryland State Police helicopter.

The tractor trailer driver from Virginia, Charles Henry Cooke, was not injured in the crash.

Traffic on I-270 was backed-up for several hours as troopers continued to complete their investigation.

As investigation continues on this collision, the identities of the man and woman involved will be released once their next of kin has been notified.
