WASHINGTON (AP) -

Parts of Maryland and the D.C. area may be in for some nasty post-Christmas weather.

The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for parts of western Maryland, while the D.C. region on Wednesday can expect rain possibly mixed with sleet and snow in the morning.

Forecasters expect rain throughout the day.

The State Highway Administration in Maryland says it's monitoring the weather and will send crews out where needed.

It says people traveling on Wednesday should be extremely careful and give themselves extra time.

Elsewhere in the country, blizzard conditions were possible for parts of Illinois, Indiana and western Kentucky. And severe thunderstorms brought drenching rains and high winds to the Gulf Coast area on Christmas Day.
