CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -

Authorities say an inmate at a state prison in western Maryland was found slain in his cell, and charges are pending against a fellow inmate.

State police say 51-year-old Ricky Bailey was found unresponsive in his cell early Sunday morning at the North Branch Correctional Institution. He had numerous injuries, including to his head and neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bailey was serving a sentence of life without parole.

Police have not identified the suspect and will do so after charges are filed. According to police and prison officials, Bailey's cellmate reported that Bailey needed to be removed from the cell.

Bailey's body will be sent to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy.
