CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -

Maryland corrections officials say a teenage inmate has been hospitalized after being found in his cell with head and facial injuries.

Corrections spokesman Mark Vernarelli says the unidentified 19-year-old inmate was found unresponsive in his cell around lunchtime on Monday at the Western Correctional Institution near Cumberland. Vernarelli says the unidentified inmate was taken first to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center and later to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The corrections spokesman says a fellow inmate has been identified as a possible suspect.

The maximum security facility three miles southwest of Cumberland houses about 1,600 inmates.
