ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -

A swim coach has surrendered in Montgomery County to face a charge of child abuse that police say occurred decades ago.

Police say 63-year-old Richard Jay Curl turned himself in on Thursday and is being processed on one count of child abuse.

The charge comes after police in August interviewed a 43-year-old woman who said she had been abused by Curl when he coached her as a child.

She alleged that the abuse started with inappropriate touching when she was 13 and continued with sexual acts until she was 18. The woman says the abuse occurred at his former homes and at the swimming facilities at the Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda.

A phone message left for Curl at his Vienna, Va., was not immediately returned Thursday.
