BALTIMORE - Summer is the deadliest time of year for teen drivers and passengers.
According to AAA, over 7,300 teen drivers and their passengers ages 13-19 died in crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day between 2005-2009.
Seven out of 10 days with the most crashes happened within the summer months.
An average of 422 teens die in crashes in the summer months compared to a monthly average of 363 during non-summer months.

Why is summer driving more dangerous for teens?
“Summer time is a deadly time when school’s out and teens have more opportunities to drive or ride in cars, especially late at night with other tends, and thus may be more inclined to participate in risky behaviours,” said Ragina C. Averella, Manager of Public and Government Affairs, AAA Mid Atlantic.
“During this time, parental involvement is even more critical to keep their teen drivers safe,” she said.
