ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -

A Montgomery County high school student accused of trespassing on campus has been charged with bringing an unloaded handgun to the school.

Octavio Antonio Estevez of Derwood was arrested Thursday morning after a school resource officer at Magruder High School in Rockville spotted a student who wasn't supposed to be on school property.

Police say an unloaded .22-caliber handgun was found in the boy's backpack, but officers weren't immediately sure whether it works. There was no ammunition found and no one was injured.

Police say Estevez has been charged as an adult with dangerous weapon on a school property, possession of a firearm by a minor and disorderly conduct.

It wasn't immediately clear if the 17-year-old Estevez had a lawyer.
