BALTIMORE - Parents, you may have heard the stories from you child -- brutal cases of bullying, name calling, internet taunting, even physical violence -- all happening in the classroom.

We all know something has to be done.

In a few hours-- a statewide conference on bullying prevention kicks off. Teams from school systems across the state will attend this conference at College Park.

The conference started yesterday but the majority of the folks will be there today. First Lady Katie O'Malley , State Superintendent Dr. Lillian Lowry and other teams of educators will be on hand for the conference.

This is the third year for the event which coincides with national bullying prevention month.

Those who attend will receive the latest research and practices in school safety,  learn strategies on how to empower students to help stop bullying and offer ideas for bullying prevention.

We caught up with a bully expert with the state department of education who will attend this conference.

"We want them to take away a renewed enthusiasm for the work they are doing.... What research has revealed,” said Chuck Buckler, Executive Director at the Maryland State Department of Education.

This is the largest bullying prevention conference in the state. The event runs from 9am to 4pm on the college park campus.
