ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Longtime gun-control advocate Sarah Brady is coming to Annapolis to show support for a measure backed by Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Brady, the wife of former White House press secretary Jim Brady, is scheduled to attend a photo opportunity with O'Malley and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.

Jim Brady was left paralyzed in the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan by a mentally ill gunman.

O'Malley, a Democrat, has made gun control a top priority of the legislative session. A measure with the governor's backing would ban assault weapons and strengthen licensing requirements for handguns. The bill also would increase school security and address mental health issues related to firearm access.
