OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -

Municipal workers in Ocean City are filling hundreds of sandbags in preparation for flooding from a combination of pre-Halloween storms.

Public Works Director Hal Adkins said Friday he aims to stockpile 1,000 sandbags before the predicted arrival of heavy rain and high winds from Hurricane Sandy Saturday night. Foul weather is expected through Tuesday as the tropical storm meets a cold front approaching from the west.

Besides protecting municipal structures, the Ocean City workers are removing trash barrels and construction signs that could become missiles in a storm.

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is fueling its generators and stockpiling dry ice to ensure the animals are fed if the power goes out. A spokeswoman says she hopes the storm won't wash out this weekend's ZooBooo trick-or-treating event.
