SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -

A Salisbury mom is trying to shame a toy thief into returning the items stolen from her front porch.

The Daily Times (http://bit.ly/VJTF9U ) reports that when Arlene Deras found a basketball hoop and other toys had been stolen from her porch, she decided not to call the police. Instead, she decided to call the person out.

She has posted a handwritten sign in her yard to let people know the theft was affecting her disabled 6-year-old son. The sign says he "cannot walk or talk" and asks whether the culprit "can live with knowing (they) are dirt."

Deras says she didn't want to bother the police.

Deras adopted her son after taking him in as a foster child. He suffers from seizures and has a feeding tube to his stomach.
