As wildfires continue to blaze in the mid-west and the country recovers from the effects of hurricane Isaac, now is the time to prepare your family’s vehicle for a possible evacuation.

ABC2 News is working for you with seven tips to prepare yourself and your car in case of an emergency.

  • Have an extra set of keys to the vehicle
  • Check the air pressure in your tires and keep a potable air pump or fix a flat in the vehicle
  • Be sure to get recommended factory-scheduled maintenance services
  • Change your car's oil
  • Fill the tank with gas
  • Don't drive through standing water and only drive on properly cleared roadways
  • Keep a jump box for no crank starts
