LAUREL, Md. - Prince George's County police have identified the victim of an apparent drowning in a Laurel pond.
Police say 21-year-old Kalif Omar Richardson of District Heights died Tuesday night after drowning in about five feet of water near the 13000 block of Old Stagecoach Road.
Witnesses reported seeing Richardson go into the water but not resurface.
County fire department spokesman Mark Brady says rescue teams and a helicopter searched the pond for more than an hour before finding Richardson's body.
Brady says Richardson was not breathing and did not have a pulse when he was pulled from the water. CPR was performed on Richardson and he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is being done. Toxicology results are expected to take about six weeks.
