SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County police have identified a 22-year-old man who was fatally shot by officers inside a Silver Spring home.
Police say Tracy Woodfork of Bladensburg was suicidal and told officers that he wanted police to kill him. Police say he was carrying a replica handgun when he confronted officers early Monday morning.
Police found Woodfork in a stairwell after they responded to a 911 call. He later walked up the stairwell and confronted the officers and was shot shortly after 5 a.m. He died at a hospital.
Before the confrontation with Woodfork, police say they escorted his 23-year-old girlfriend and three children from the home. The woman had been babysitting the children.
The officers who shot Woodfork have been placed on routine administrative leave.
