O'Malley denounces anti-gambling ads as "hogwash"

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -
Gov. Martin O'Malley says television ads against Maryland's proposed gambling expansion are "hogwash" and "a bunch of West Virginia casino hooey."
The governor had a few other colorful words in his tirade Wednesday against the ads by Penn National Gaming, which owns a casino in Maryland and another just over the state's border in West Virginia.
O'Malley took particular umbrage at the suggestion that additional gambling proceeds won't go to education as set out in the proposal.
Maryland is in the middle of an ad blitz on both sides of the gambling issue, which will be on the ballot in November.
So far, Penn National has spent more than $18 million on its campaign against a casino in Prince George's County. Supporters have spent more than $14 million.
