ROCK HALL, Md. -
A Maryland man is accused of using fireworks to destroy a gingerbread house on his front porch.
Jerry Lee Heinefield, of Rock Hall, faces charges of reckless endangerment and illegal fireworks possession. The Star-Democrat of Easton reports that deputy state fire marshals served a summons on Heinefield this week.
Authorities say the 36-year-old Heinefield put illegal fireworks inside the gingerbread house, and that his wife was burned on the wrist when it exploded.
Heinefield told The Associated Press on Saturday that he had used small firecrackers as a creative way to dispose of a gingerbread house he no longer wanted.
He called the incident an accident that had been "blown out of proportion." He says the explosion left just a very small spot on his wife's wrist.
