ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
Marylanders who buy new, energy-efficient appliances like air conditioners, washing machines, furnaces or refrigerators will get a break on state sales tax this weekend.
Beginning on Saturday and continuing through Monday the state is waiving the normal six percent sales tax on qualifying products. Eligible products also include compact fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats.
The tax-free weekend is the result of legislation passed in 2007 by the Maryland General Assembly.
