WALDORF, Md. (AP) -

Authorities in Maryland say a man is dead after his gun apparently accidentally discharged at a shooting range, killing him.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office says officers were called Saturday at 9:23 a.m. to The St. Charles Sportsman's Club in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. The Sheriff's Office says officers found 61-year-old Patrick Allen Richards of Hughesville suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office says an investigation found that Richards was at the range to fire his own gun. While at the range, his gun apparently discharged, striking him once in the upper body.

The Sheriff's office says there were no signs of foul play and the shooting is being investigated as an accident.
