Md. awards $3.1 million for bike routes

HANOVER, Md. - The state of Maryland is spending $3.1 million to expand and improve bicycling opportunities.
The Department of Transportation announced the Bikeways Program grants Tuesday.
They include $1.5 million to build a nearly half-mile connection between the Anacostia Tributary Trails System in Prince George's County and the Washington D.C. River Trail.
Another major project is a $470,000 grant to extend the Three Notch Trail in St. Mary's County.
A grant of $320,000 will fund design and construction of a downtown Baltimore cycle track and bike network.
This is the second set of Bikeways grants announced this year. They bring the total for 2012 to 48 recipients and $5.6 million.
