ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Two Maryland agencies are going to work on environmental surveys needed to develop offshore wind energy.

The Maryland Energy Administration and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources on Friday announced a memorandum of understanding to work together on the surveys.

The state will be using money acquired from the 2011 merger settlement of Exelon and Constellation Energy.

The surveys are intended to reduce environmental and financial uncertainties related to deploying offshore wind energy.
