This coming weekend, February 18-20, is a tax free weekend for Energy Star appliances in Maryland.
Anyone who buys an Energy Star rated appliance including air conditioners, clothes washers and dryers, furnaces, heat pumps, boilers, solar water heaters, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, programmable thermostats, and compact fluorescent light bulbs, will not pay the 6% sales tax.
The weekend, being promoted by the Maryland Retailers Association, will give Marylander's an incentive to buy Energy Star rated appliances, but it is also designed to lower energy bills and help the environment.
For more information about the tax free weekend, you can check out the Comptroller of Maryland's page about the weekend at http://www.marylandtaxes.com/ShopMD_2011/default.asp.
