Maryland wins in 'Race to the Top' funds

$250 million in federal education money

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A spokesman for Gov. Martin O'Malley says Maryland has been awarded $250 million in federal education money under the "Race to the Top" grant competition.

Shaun Adamec said Tuesday that the U.S. Education Department notified the governor's office that Maryland is among nine states and the District of Columbia that have been awarded grant money.

O'Malley is scheduled to congratulate members of the Maryland Board of Education later Tuesday.
