The Maryland Transit Administration is working to make sure passengers get home safely and on time during this week's winter weather.

They've put a special "snow plan" into place, which includes continuously monitoring subway and light rail conditions, as well as bus routes.

Officials with the administration say local buses will operate on regular routes as long as possible, but some routes will be redirected to snow emergency routes, depending on ice and snow levels.

The MTA will also use special "snow trains" during overnight hours if needed.

Also, crews are ready to remove ice and snow from parking lots and entrances.

The MTA is offering a few tips too.  They recommend the following:

  • Allow extra time to travel.  Buses and trains can be delayed because of weather and traffic.
  • Remember to dress warmly when traveling.
  • Be cautious and walk slowly and carefully on platforms and at bus stops.

For more information on possible delays on MTA transportation, you can check their website at www.mta.maryland.gov.
