EDGEWATER, Md. - Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will highlight an anti-bullying program at an Edgewater school.
Brown will visit Central Middle School on Wednesday as part of Maryland's Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. The lieutenant governor will talk to sixth-graders about standing up against bullying. Eighth-graders will take part in bullying awareness skits as part of the Bully Awareness Crew, a program developed at the school.
Maryland's first lady, Catherine Curran O'Malley, also has been highlighting bullying awareness this week. And Gov. Martin O'Malley has an event scheduled for Thursday at Urbana Middle School in
Frederick County.
During the 2009-2010 school year in Maryland, a total of 3,318 incidents of bullying were reported, an increase of 2,132 over the previous year.
