LEONARDTOWN, Md. (WMAR) -

Police in St. Mary's County are trying to figure out how a man died when he ended up under his own farm tractor.

On Sunday, police responded to a private farm in Leonardtown for the report of a farming accident. When officers arrived, they found Robert Jarboe, 79, lying beneath a farm tractor.

Jarboe was taken to a local hospital when he was pronounced deceased.

It has been determined that Jarboe was operating his farm tractor when he either inadvertently placed the tractor in gear while exiting the tractor or fell from the tractor while it was in gear causing him to be thrown from the tractor.

Jarboe fell behind the tractor and was subsequently struck.
