CRESAPTOWN, Md. (AP) -

A man who authorities say was drunk and arguing with his girlfriend has been charged with assaulting a Maryland police officer.

Maryland State Police say it happened in Cresaptown early Sunday morning after two troopers responded to a report of a stolen car.

Police say John Albert Kennard III began arguing with his girlfriend, who had driven the vehicle home, and at one point grabbed one of the troopers by the arm and knocked him off balance.

Kennard was charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

No telephone listing for Kennard could immediately be found.
