DERWOOD, Md - Montgomery County police say a 59-year-old man has drowned in a pool in the backyard of his Derwood home.
Police say they were called to the 7000 block of Needwood Road for the report of a drowning about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say they attempted to treat the man at the scene before taking him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Mojtaba Tehrani Kia.
According to a preliminary investigation, Kia had been doing yard work in the backyard for several hours. He was found wearing swim trunks and a towel and his sandals were located near the pool.
Police say there is no suspicion of foul play. The chief medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
