FREDERICK, Md. - Three-time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond will be racing a bicycle through the streets of Frederick -- and not just any bicycle.
LeMond is scheduled to take part in the Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Bicycle race on Saturday. It bills itself as the only race in the United States and one of only four in the world in which participants ride bicycles featuring an oversized front wheel, a design popular in the late 19th Century. Racers will ride antique or replica bicycles.
The race covers a half-mile circuit in downtown Frederick. It starts at 4 p.m. and will last one hour. LeMond will be one of about two dozen riders.
