ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A hearing will be held Wednesday on the state permitting non-citizens to vote and hold office.

Delegate Pat McDonough has introduced legislation which will prohibit non-citizens from voting anywhere in the state.

McDonough says non-citizens “are defined as foreigners, illegal aliens, criminal aliens, and others. ”

According to McDonough, seven towns in Maryland currently allow non-citizens to vote and hold public office.

Specifically McDonough singles out Takoma Park.  In a press release he says “Osama bin Laden, if he were alive today, could move to Takoma Park, vote, and hold public office. ”

He says the state constitution prohibits anyone who is not a citizen from voting, and if his bill fails gain traction in the general assembly, he could file a lawsuit.

The House of Delegates ways and means committee will hold a hearing on the law at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
