FREDERICK, Md. -

Frederick police are cracking down on skateboarders and bicycle stunt riders in the downtown historic district.

Police say that over the next few weeks, they'll be conducting "an education and outreach operation" to remind people about restrictions on such vehicles.

The restrictions include a ban on skateboarding on downtown sidewalks and on the paved banks of the Carroll Creek Park.

The rules also prohibit stunt riding of bicycles.

Some owners of businesses along Carroll Creek have complained about youths on bikes and skateboards causing disturbances and intimidating their customers.

The Frederick Police Activities League plans to create a skateboard park in nearby Sagner Park.
