HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Food Bank is making house calls.

The group's Western Branch says it's delivering more than 3,000 pounds of food Friday to the Francis Murphy Senior Apartments in Hagerstown.

The complex has 120 residents. Many of them pay rents subsidized by the federal government due to their low income levels.

The food bank typically delivers to soup kitchens, pantries and shelters. The group says it's starting monthly deliveries to senior housing sites because many seniors are reluctant to apply for food assistance programs; they skip meals instead.

The food bank says a charitable grant from CitiFinancial makes the deliveries possible.
