BALTIMORE - Two people died in Friday night’s severe weather that knocked out power and caused havoc across the Baltimore-Washington area.
Twenty-five year old Kevin Alan O’Brien of Edgewater died when a tree fell on his Ford Escape as he drove along the 400 block of Harwood Road in Harwood, Maryland. Police say the tree landed on the front of the SUV trapping O’Brien and two passengers just before 11:30pm.
Anne Arundel County medics declared O’Brien dead at the scene. The passengers were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.
Police say high winds and heavy rains reported in the area were contributing factors.
A 71-year-old woman also died when a large maple tree fell through her roof and crushed her in her bed in Silver Spring. The victim’s identity will be released after notification of family members. She lived alone in the residence.
The exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
