UPPER MARLBORO, Md -

A former District of Columbia police officer convicted in the deaths of his mistress and their baby daughter is being sentenced.

Richmond Phillips faces sentences of life without parole, plus 20 years, when he appears Friday morning in Prince George's County Circuit Court.

Phillips was convicted in January on two counts of first-degree murder and other crimes.

He was arrested in June 2011 after police found Wynetta Wright dead in a Prince George's County park.

Their 11-month-old child was found dead in a car parked nearby.

Prosecutors argued that Phillips killed Wright to avoid paying child support.
