CAMBRIDGE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Association of Counties is focusing on emergency response at its annual winter meeting in Cambridge.

The three-day meeting begins Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay.

The sessions for elected officials and administrators include presentations on maintaining essential operations and reaching vulnerable citizens during natural disasters.

They're also learning how to minimize storm damage to public works and infrastructure.

Another timely session is aimed at preventing violence in schools and workplaces through early identification of potentially violent situations.
