Corporal charged in girlfriend's assault

FREDERICK, Md. (WMAR) - A Frederick Police Corporal was arrested and charged following allegations of him assaulting his girlfriend.

On June 16, Frederick Police were notified of an assault that had just occurred in the area of the 1400 block of Key Parkway. The victim notified police that she and her live in boyfriend were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical when he struck her several times in the chest and back.

Officers identified the suspect as Martin Holt, a 14 year veteran of the Frederick Police Department. The investigation took more than a week, but the Corporal was charged with second degree assault today.

Holt was assigned as the Assistant Supervisor to a midnight shift in the Patrol Division. Holt's police powers have been suspended and he has been placed on administrative duties.

Internal Affairs is also conducting a separate internal investigation.

Frederick Police Chief Kim Dine said "enforcement of laws and ensuring the safety of all citizens is paramount. Allegations of domestic violence regardless of who has allegedly committed it must be taken seriously. When the person accused is a member of our department we are saddened and outraged. We regret this incident occurred; we take these matters very seriously evident by our professional, respectful, handling of this incident".
