LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (AP) -

A dedication ceremony is planned for a memorial honoring black soldiers from southern Maryland who fought in the Civil War.

Rep. Steny Hoyer, the House's No. 2 Democrat, will speak at Saturday's dedication. The monument is located in a park in Lexington Park, which is in Hoyer's district.

The memorial is known as the U.S. Colored Troops Civil War Memorial Monument and was established by local volunteers to honor black soldiers from St. Mary's County.
