BALTIMORE - Maryland will keep its eight congressional seats based on figures from the 2010 Census.
Maryland is one of 32 states that won't gain on lose any seats in Congress.
Now, the fight over redistricting the state is about to begin. The General Assembly will take up the issue during its 2011 session. Democrats have a strong majority in Annapolis and could try to make the First District more appealing to Democratic candidates.
Democrat Frank Kratovil held that seat, which is made up of the Eastern Shore and parts of Cecil, Harford, Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties, for one term. He lost this year to Republican Andy Harris.
Six of Maryland's representatives in Congress are Democrats.
The Census found Maryland's population grew nine percent since 2000, going up from 5,296,486 to 5,773,552.
