Patapsco State Park - Hundred came to Patapsco State Park on Monday to celebrate the
175th birthday of the Thomas Viaduct.
Opening on July 4th, 1835 and spanning 614 feet across the
Patapsco River, it made history as the first railroad bridge built
on a curve.
And even today it still makes history as the oldest stone
bridge in continual use.
But age is taking its toll on the structure.
The Friends of the Patapsco Valley and Heritage Greenway say
that the Thomas Viaduct needs work.
The group set a two-year timeline to raise money and
complete repairs which would include a viewing area.
