BALTIMORE, Md. - With less than 2 percent of precincts reporting, it was announced Democrat Ben Cardin would have a second US Senate term in Maryland.

Cardin's GOP candidate, Dan Bongino had his speech prepared. He said he had to be realistic.

"We fought a good fight. It would be a huge upset," he said. "...I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith."

Cardin said the win made him proud.

"We steered clear of mud-slinging," he said.

The senator said he could not say that for the campaign of one of his opponents. He also said partisanship must become a non-issue as Maryland works to make progress with various issues.

"It's out there, we just have to come together and work for it. I'm ready," Cardin said. I hope that you're ready also.

At the Democratic party celebration Tuesday night at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, House members also re-elected in Maryland spoke in support of Cardin and President Barack Obama.

John Sarbanes, Dem, elected U.S . House, District 3, Maryland, said the re-election of Cardin was part of a promise.

"We kept that promise." he said.

Those taking the podium in support of Cardin Tuesday, including Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, described him as a man of integrity.

"Ben, we really respect you and congratulations," said Dutch Ruppersberger , Dem, elected U.S . House, District 2, Maryland.

Many who spoke in favor of Cardin, Obama and House incumbents spoke with emotion. Among those, Elijah Cummings, Dem, elected U.S . House, District 7, Maryland.

"I don't know what the margin of victory will be, but it is going to be big here in Maryland. I can promise you that," Cummings said.

Just as jubilant and emotional as Cummings was Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski.

"I can't tell you what a great night it is here," she said. "...The firewall is holding."

ABC2 News will have a special live stream available with Cardin at 9:15 p.m. WATCH | abc2news.com/live
