CHESTER, Md. - A seven week old puppy was stolen straight from an animal rescue group.

The pup, named Mango, hasn't been completely weaned off his mother, and now a desperate search is on.

Here at the Animal Resource Foundation on Kent Island they are dedicated to saving the lives of animals in need, but someone took advantage of their kindness.

Somebody stole this little guy's brother.

That's right somebody stole one of these puppies as he laid next to his mother and siblings.

A couple came in yesterday and spent about 40 minutes with the puppies, acting as if they wanted to adopt one of them.

"The woman pulled the car around front and then the man left and her comment was 'gosh they must have been in quite a hurry.'"

They were in a hurry because they just stole one of the puppies like he was a pack of gum.

"They are pocket size puppies at this stage that he just pocketed that puppy and left with the puppy."

Mango, as he's known here at the rescue, is only 7 weeks old.

Still a couple weeks shy of being able to be away from his mother.

"These puppies aren't completely weaned from their mother and we have health concerns about him."

Millie Weisenborne , who volunteers here, can think of only one kind of person who would steal a puppy.

" Sick..sick, sick. Really needs some psychological help."

As upset as they are about someone who stole these guy's little brother, they still don't have any ill will towards them.

"All we want is out puppy back, we don't want to prosecute, we just want back our puppy."

Millie is not as sympathetic, she can think of only one sentence that is appropriate for the puppy thieves.

"The Max !"

"We get very attached to our animals here."

"Just bring out puppy back."

Queen Anne's County Police have been informed and would like to hear from you if you know anything.

The animal rescue is offering up a $1,000 reward for Mango's safe return.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the A.R.F. at 410-643-8700 or email info@arfusa.org.
