ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Activists are set to rally for higher tobacco taxes later Wednesday.
Advocates and community and faith leaders will rally in Annapolis to support a set of bills that call for an increase in taxes on cigarettes, cigars and smokeless tobacco.
Governor O’Malley’s current budget proposal includes a large increase in taxes on cigars and smokeless tobacco. It would raise the tax from 15% to 66% of the wholesale cost.
There is other legislation that has been proposed that would increase the cigarette tax by $1.
