HAGERSTOWN, Md. -   Twenty-four young women are vying in Hagerstown for the title of Miss Maryland.

The winner of the pageant Saturday night will represent Maryland in the 2013 Miss America competition in January.

The Miss Maryland Scholarship Organization says the pageant at the downtown Maryland Theatre provides young women with thousands of dollars toward the cost of their college education.

The organization says it also helps young women achieve their goals and express their opinions, talent and intelligence in a public forum.
