COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -

Police say two University of Maryland students were targeted for armed robberies in the span of less than 12 hours.

The first occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday in front of the Shanghai Cafe on Baltimore Avenue in College Park. Campus police say three males approached a student and punched him before taking his wallet and iPhone. An officer on the scene chased the robbers, and they were arrested. Police say the robbers were armed with brass knuckles and a knife.

Then, early Sunday afternoon, campus police say someone inside a student apartment building pulled a handgun and tried to steal a student's laptop. The student refused and scuffled with the attacker, who fled the scene. Campus police and Prince George's County police are investigating.
