SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -

Salisbury police say a 15-year-old boy was fatally injured when the car he was driving crashed while he was fleeing police.

Officers say about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, police tried to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. Authorities say when the car didn't stop, police chased the car on Camden Avenue. A second marked patrol car joined the chase.

Officers say the teen's car hit a mailbox and a pole. The boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police Chief Barbara Duncan says the reason officers were trying to stop the car is under investigation. She said one officer involved in the chase is on administrative leave; two other officers were placed on suspended status.
