FREDERICK, Md. - The Hillcrest Elementary School was closed briefly on Tuesday following reports of two gunshots in the area, according to Frederick Police.
Police said they received a call from a concerned citizen in the area who reported hearing two gunshots being fired and seeing four young males running from the area. Officers quickly arrived in the area. Hillcrest Elementary School was immediately temporarily locked down, meaning no one was permitted to either exit or enter the school.
Officers searched the area for evidence of gunshots being fired and were not successful in locating any casings or weapons. A police K-9 was also called into the area to attempt to search for any casings or weapons, and was not able to locate evidence of shots being fired. After an exhaustive search, the school was re-opened after approximately 30 minutes.
