Ulman creates School Security Task Force

The task force will be directed by Howard County Police Chief William McMahon and a representative of the Howard County Public Schools. It will also include participation from other agencies. 

 

Ulman announced the initiative after a meeting with School Superintendent Dr. Renee Foose and Chief McMahon on Monday to discuss school safety.  

 

The task force is expected to examine not only school facilities conditions, but how security plans are being implemented in practice. 

 

Ulman and Dr. Foose agreed that the task force should complete its work quickly. 

 

"There are clearly broader, societal issues at play with tragedies such as the Newtown shootings," Ulman said. "It's not just a school problem, or a police problem. We have to put the pieces together and try to lower the odds that a tragedy like this happens again."
