ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WMAR) - Wet roads and high speed proved to be a deadly combination for an elderly Ellicott City man on Saturday afternoon.

Howard County police said Harold Mazmanian, 87, of the 2500 block of Melba Road in Ellicott City died just before 2:00pm after his Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck skidded out of the eastbound lane of MD Rt. 99 and slammed into a tree.  Road conditions were slick at the time of the accident due to an ongoing rainstorm.

Mazmanian was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a failure to drive in a single lane and a failure to slow down were factors in the crash.

Police are investigating.
