ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WMAR) - The residents of Oakland Mills Village of Columbia currently live on a street named Coon Hunt Court and are striving to change the name of that street.
This effort began when the disruption in the community of racial connotations offended people which led to the street sign being stolen over the years.
County Council Member Calvin Ball supports the six unanimous homeowners in the community and The Department of Planning and Zoning are in charge of changing road names which includes an application and public hearing.
The board plans to meet on September 6 at the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City at 7pm, altering the name from Coon Hunt Court to April Wind Circle.
