COLUMBIA, Md. - The man accused of stabbing a 17-year-old to death last summer at an apartment on Airybrink Lane in Columbia pleaded guilty in court Monday.

Xavier Bates of Columbia was charged with murder in the death of Christian Massey-Hall. Police say the two were in a fight.

Officers say Bates went to Hall's home, forced his way into his apartment and stabbed him several times with a steak knife.

It was an attack witnessed by the deceased teen's mother. Prosecutors say Christine Massey told her son she loved him just before he re-entered the apartment and yelled for help. Bates reportedly jumped on top of Christian and began beating him.

It wasn't until after the fight that the mother realized her son had been stabbed.

Bates, who pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, will be sentenced on December 14.
